Interstate MAX Line Design-Build
Location: Portland, Oregon
DEA was the lead engineering, construction engineering, and survey firm for the design-build delivery of a new segment of light rail in Portland, Oregon.
Line Section 10C was TriMet’s $33 million, 8,000-foot-long extension of the Interstate MAX light rail line. The section included two stations, both incorporating park-and-ride facilities. About half of the segment was carried on a 4,000-foot-long, 28-span, prestressed, precast concrete bulb-T girder bridge with a cast-in-place concrete deck.
DEA used a fast-track design approach that divided the project into multiple design packages in order to meet the strict in-water work periods for the construction of foundations in the Columbia Slough and to accelerate overall construction. This resulted in project delivery to TriMet approximately nine months ahead of schedule.
