Portland Community College "Net Zero" Water Strategy
Location: Portland, Oregon
“Net Zero” is Portland Community College’s goal for water and energy use on its Sylvania Campus in Southwest Portland, Oregon. As a member of a public-private partnership, DEA led the evaluation of sustainable water strategies for this project. Services included reviewing existing water, sanitary, and stormwater system performance and utility costs; developing sustainable water strategies including water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and wastewater treatment and reuse; identifying financial impacts, incentive opportunities, and investment returns; and providing strategy recommendations and implementation next steps.
This project was funded by federal stimulus dollars through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), guided by the state's Oregon Way program, which channels ARRA funds into projects providing direct and immediate benefits. DEA, with our strong experience in sustainable water and wastewater design, was chosen to be part of the team for this effort.
