Milwaukie Riverfront Park

Location: Milwaukie, Oregon

The evolution of the Milwaukie Riverfront Park was an exercise in perseverance, diplomacy, and collaboration. Critical to the success of the Milwaukie Downtown and Riverfront Land Use Framework Plan was the redevelopment of 6.5 acres of waterfront along the shores of the Willamette River. The site is the venue for annual community events that stretched the facility’s ability to support large and diverse groups of users. The redevelopment expanded capacity and created opportunities for local business owners to tap into a wide range of economic potential.

DEA led the process to develop the alternatives and concepts and received public input. DEA also provided civil and structural engineering, environmental planning, architectural, and landscape architectural consulting and survey services to restore the Willamette River shoreline and integrate an internal trail system. New features include the large public plaza with a water feature and a restroom building, and an outdoor theater space. The site accommodates a reconfigured boat ramp and dock. The north end of the park, adjacent to Johnson Creek, includes trails, scenic overlooks, and informal connections to the Willamette River. Connections on both the north and south ends provide access to regional trail systems for cyclists and pedestrians.
